My husband Hector and I were fortunate to be introduced to Community Home Australia (CHA) in the second year of Hector’s Younger Onset Dementia diagnosis when he was 62 years old. CHA services and supports (including day centre programmes, in-home carers, respite and eventually Supported Independent Living) provided Hector and I with the care, security and support we needed to deal with this awful disease. CHA’s team are professional, compassionate and dedicated, and provided the utmost care to Hector throughout his journey with dementia. They responded to his needs as they changed and always treated him with dignity and respect. I am forever grateful to the CHA team and would strongly recommend them to others on this same path.

My mum, Karen Somerville, was the very first resident to move into Kambera House, and it has been the best decision for her. Living with early onset Alzheimer’s, many people decline quickly when they go into care, but Karen has flourished in this environment. The team don’t just provide care — they truly notice her, understand her, and always share their observations with our family. Karen is encouraged to be herself, whether that’s giving massages, singing songs, or joining in with others. She is celebrated as part of a family, and we are so grateful for the thoughtful and personal way she is supported every day.

To the Community Homes Australia Team, My wife, Susan, was diagnosed with younger onset dementia at the age of 58. We provided care for her at home for approximately seven years. In 2021, we came across an article in the Canberra Times about Community Homes Australia, which was providing care for individuals with younger onset dementia. We contacted them and were warmly welcomed and assured that Susan would receive the highest quality care possible. Despite being a new business, the Greenfield site was an unexpected experience. However, the staff and management demonstrated exceptional professionalism in their caregiving. Susan received the best care that anyone or any family could expect, and the care they provided to our family and Susan throughout her life was exemplary. The CHA nursing team, delivered exceptional care for our relative living with early onset dementia, complex mental health needs, and a history of trauma.
